VE Day 80 year commemorations

Grindon Parish Council is organising an Afternoon Tea event on BH Monday 5th May from 3-5pm. Everyone is welcome. There is no charge but we are hoping for donations towards a memorial plaque explaining that the church clock is the First World War memorial.
Staffordshire Moorlands Council has given us a grant towards the Afternoon Tea and the Village Hall Management Committee has waived the hall hire costs, so thank you to them all for this.
The Gardening Club has already planted an oak tree in the play area and we hope that the memorial can go next to that. AJ ( Alan) Simpson has kindly offered us a piece ( or two) of lovely stone from his quarry at Oldfields Farm for us to site the plaque. This is fitting as his great great grandfather built the church.
A Grindon resident has offered us a sizeable donation towards the purchase of the plaque, so we are hopeful that we will raise enough money to get this all completed fairly soon.
So a big thank you to everyone who has helped or donated.
Update: Thank you to everyone who attended the VE Day 80th Celebration Afternoon Tea and especially to everyone who helped in any way. It was a lovely afternoon event with some fantastic items for the display . Thank you for all your donations too.
