New memorial for Grindon
After WWI was over, the grateful folk of Grindon clubbed together to give thanks for peace and to thank the men, particularly those from Grindon who served their country. With the funds raised, they purchased the church clock. Inside the church a tablet on the wall commemorates this but there is nothing to tell visitors as they walk past unless they enter the church.
After a wonderful Afternoon Tea to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of VE Day, there was enough money donated to get a memorial placed outside to explain this. The stone was donated by Mr. AJ Simpson and the plaque organised by the Parish Council.
*This will be unveiled in a small ceremony on Remembrance Day 11th November 2025 at 10.45 with 2 minutes silence at 11am. Everyone welcome. Tea & Biscuits will be provided in the village hall after the ceremony.*
*This has now taken place. There was a very good turnout, the memorial was unveiled by Colonel Howard from the village , the names of the Grindon men who lost their life in WWI were read out and a wreath (provided by the Parish Council) was laid on behalf of the villagers by Mr. A.J. Simpson.
Best Kept Village Competition 2025
Grindon was entered into the competition in April. We were shortlisted and then visited by 3 judges in June, visited again anonymously and then informed that Grindon was in the final of the competition North Staffordshire Small Village category.
The great news is that we won the North Staffordshire Small Village competition.
The parish council would like to thank everyone who has done their bit for the village in whatever capacity.
Charlie from Townend also made it into the final as runner up in his category with his ‘Lord of the Rings’ style map of Grindon – well done Charlie.
We have already decided that it was such a good experience for the village that we will definitely be entering again next year. It is the Platinum year of the competition, so we should support this wonderful competition. There are other competitions that individuals can enter, so we should make an effort to enter these too.
Devolution and Local Government Reorganisation
You may or may not be aware that local government is changing in the next few years and devolution will be coming to Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent. Find out how it will affect Staffordshire Moorlands District Council at www.staffsmoorlands.gov.uk/
The website above, will update as more information is released.
